The Uses Of Lavender For Your Beauty Regimen

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Dulce Azogue Lavender is a very popular herb but some people especially those who are not into this herbal thing and aromatherapy, do not know as to what extent it can do. But if you wantto use herbs in your beauty regimen, then knowing more about lavender may just be your first good step because it is versatile, and has a lot of potentials that have been used by people for many centuries. Lavender is a tiny evergreen shrub that grows well in temperate areas and in many countries around the world, mostly in Mediterranean countries. It produces tiny pink, white, or pale blue flowers and can grown in very high altitudes. It came from the Latin word lavare which means to wash. There are many varieties of lavender. The most common is Lavandula anguistifolia or officinalis, while the others are Lavandula stoechas, Lavandula dentate and Lavandula multifida. Lavender has a long history that dates back to the time of the Roman Empire, when it was used by Romans during bath rituals. It was also often used by herbalists for insect bites and to repel insects. Its insect repelling properties were useful during The Plague, when lavender was used to repel fleas. Associated with feminity, it quickly became popular among the royalties, especially with Queen Victoria for its calming properties. Up to this day lavender proves to be versatile that does a lot of in so many areas of health. As far as beauty is concerned, lavender oil can be used, along with olive oil and other essential oils, to treat acne. It is also used to prevent hair loss. Pour 3-6 drops of lavender oil in water when bathing. Due to its antibacterial and antiseptic characteristics, it can control blemishes, treat insect bites, burns and skin inflammations. A favorite among aromatherapists, lavender is often used in soap making, candle making and perfumery. It is used for massage, foot care, and as a hair rinse to clean the scalp and gives it a nice fragrance. It is used to make potpourris, salt baths, balms, lotions, salves and creams. The reason for this could lie in its herbaceous, yet floral scent elegant, feminine, relaxing, calming, and soothing. Its scent invokes relaxation and peacefulness calming for some to fall asleep. When used along with chamomile to make a sachet, it can be placed under a pillow to ward off insomnia. Do you know that aside from using lavender in your beauty regimen, it can also serve as a mood booster as well? This was proven by two separate studies done by researchers from University of Miami in the US and the University of Northumbria in the UK. In the US study, participants who were given lavender felt much better and were less depressed. The same result was reached by the other researchers from the University of Northumbria. Being an adaptogen, lavender can also eliminate stress and irritability. So if you are stressed, inhaling some lavender might be your answer. While there are many more uses this herb has, I have only mentioned those in the beauty aspect and will mention more in another article. Want free aromatherapy home recipes? Sales Resistance on the Rise

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero Have you noticed it? More and more marketing campaigns are going over the top. They’re trying bolder, more in-your-face tactics. And consumers DON’T like it. There’s a growing resistance toward advertising. According to a recent study by Yankelovich Partners (a marketing company) 60% of consumers have a much more negative opinion of marketing and advertising than they did a few years ago. 65% already feel overwhelmed with too many marketing messages. And 61% feel the volume is out of control. Beat consumer negativity and resistance by precisely targeting the “tar-ket” of your audience. (Remember a “tarket” is the single person you write your copy to rather than the mob of your entire “target market”. “Target” plus “market” equals “tarket”). When you tap into the psyche of your tarket, you understand better how to approach your marketing. So pull those boxes out of storage. Grab that big chunky ’swipe’ file. Collect up your competitor’s promotions. Query your past customers. Get it all together. I mean EVERYTHING. Your business history, promotions, flyers and articles. Where did you file that business plan that you created when you first started? How has the message evolved since you wrote it? What is the lifestyle focus of your tarket? Surround yourself with thorough research materials. The most powerful copy is focused with a clear idea first of the person who is already looking for your product or service. Without doing your research, your message meets resistance every time. Doing your due diligence is cheap insurance against consumer resistance. Know what your tarket wants. Not what YOU THINK he or she wants. Small Business Owners - Try These Design Tips to Create a Professional Looking Company Newsletter

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Suzanne Lieurance If you’re the owner of a small business, the thought of creating a company newsletter or ezine can be a little scary. If you have little or no graphics design experience you may not know what to do to create a professional looking ezine or newsletter, and not one that screams, “I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF!” One way around this it to hire someone to create the newsletter for you. But not every small business owner has the funds for this. Still, a company newsletter is one of the best marketing tools you can create for your business. So try the following tips and develop a professional looking newsletter you’ll be proud of: 1. Pick one font for headlines and subheads, another for text. A good combination is a bold sans serif headline font (like Futura ExtraBold Condensed or Helvetica Heavy or a modern-looking font like Meta, Moderna, or Officina San Serif) paired with a simple serif font (Times, Garamond or Garamond Condensed, Galliard, etc.) for text. Use a smaller italicized version of text font for photo captions. 2. ALL text should be the same size (12 point usually, or sometimes 10 or 11 point, depending on the font); use uniform sizes for heads and subheads–larger headlines for more important articles. Most page layout and word processing programs let you set up style sheets. Set up a style for text, headlines, subheads, captions, etc. This is a very easy way to lay out the newsletter, making sure all fonts and sizes are uniform. 3. Flush left/ragged right text looks best. Justified columns can leave weird looking spaces between words, and centered headlines, text, and ads tend to give the newsletter an amateur appearance. 4. Look at some newsletters. Find a design you really like; set your newsletter up the same way - same number of columns, same size margins, and same size sidebars on each page. Don’t try to make each page have its own design. Pages should have a uniform look. Follow these tips to create a short, simple newsletter at first. Over time, you can develop additional topics and columns for your newsletter. First, just learn the basics of creating a professional looking publication that can be used to help create a closer, ongoing relationship with your customers and clients. Worried About the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act?

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By John Waller Do you work for a financial institution that collects debts? If so, do you know whether the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. 1692 (the Act) (http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm) regulates what you do? Do you fear that your collection practices might subject you or your company to liability? Relax. The Act generally does not apply to commercial foreclosures or the collection of commercial debts. (See my 11-1-06 article Just What Is Commercial Foreclosure Law? for more background.) Personal, Family or Household Purposes. The Act focuses on obligations arising from consumer transactions. Bass v. Stolper, et al., 111 F.3d 1322 (7th Cir. 1997). Debt, for purposes of the Act, is defined as an obligation to pay money arising out of a transaction that is primarily for personal, family, or household purposes 15 U.S.C. 1692a(5). A nice article in the American Law Reports Federal explains the concept in detail: What Constitutes Debt for Purposes of Fair Debt Collection? 159 A.L.R. FED. 121 (2000). Even individual guarantors of an obligation do not fall within the scope of the Act if the guaranty is part of a commercial transaction. See the Federal Trade Commissions website (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/fdc.htm) for more discussion. My practice and blog are dedicated primarily to commercial deals, not consumer loans. If youre in the same boat, then essentially all you need to know about the Act is (1) its out there, (2) a violation of it is a bad thing, but (3) it generally doesnt apply to you. Behave Appropriately. The legal industry has some very creative attorneys, as well as some judges inclined to protect debtors. There are gray areas in the law. Legal principles evolve, as can the interpretation of statutes like the Act. For instance, the ALR article cites a case from Mississippi in which a commercial debt essentially was transformed into a consumer debt covered by the Act when the debt collector made harsh, abusive, foul, obscene, indecent, uncouth, violent, threatening, intimidating, and harassing phone calls to the debtor. So dont be reckless. Be mindful of the spirit of the Act, which Congress designed to eliminate abusive, deceptive, and unfair debt collection practices. As a general proposition, however, you need not sweat the details of the Act if youre confident that youre dealing with a commercial transaction. When in doubt, however, follow the Act. Or, contact your lawyer for advice. In the past few years, there has been plenty of litigation involving the application and enforcement of the Act, so recent case law exists to help you or your lawyer determine whether your actions may be regulated. Interest Only Loans

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jame_Smith]Jame Smith Interest only loans are interest centric. In, this kind of loan a borrower only pays the interest due on the principal balance. In such cases, the principal balance does not change over the set term. After the expiry of the interest only term, the borrower has an option to go for the following: The borrower can covert the existing loan to an amortized loan wherein he makes regular payments on the principal and the interest. The borrower can also enter what is known as interest only mortgage, wherein he can make the payment on the principal amount. The interest-only period varies from one country to another. In the United States, the interest-only period, typically, is for five or ten years. This essentially means that if a borrower has to pay a loan over a period of thirty years, he can only go for the interest-only option for the first five years or first ten years. This is dependant on the choice he/she makes and the money lending organization. After the interest-only term is over the amortization of the principal balance takes place for the remaining years. The primary advantage of the interest-only loan is that the initial payments are much lower than the payment that a person makes later on. This enables borrowers to plan accordingly and they can borrow more amount of money than they can afford. This is done by taking into consideration the hope that their salaries might just see a substantial increase over the term of the loan. It can be said that when a person takes an interest-only mortgage (as in the US), the individual is paying the rent for the house. This is because there is no decrease in the amount of the principal loan. In countries like the United Kingdom, interest only loans are getting increasingly popular, as this is one way to buy any asset, whose price is not likely to depreciate much over time. If, at the end of the loan period a person is unable to pay the principal amount, the asset can be sold to repay the capital. Some countries allow a person to combine the interest-only loan with a myriad of financial options. This is illustrated by an example of Canada, which allows a combination of interest-only mortgage with options like corporate bonds etc. While going for interest only loans, you must evaluate your options very carefully. As in the case of all loans, there are a few disadvantages as well. In many cases, you might have to pay property tax. In other cases, you have to buy property insurance that is a mandatory requirement when you take an interest-only loan. At times, a person has to pay a tax on his/her property and purchase the property insurance. James has been writing about mortgages for many years and offers information on the different types of mortgages available from the web site http://www.1mortgagesuk.co.uk Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jame_Smith http://EzineArticles.com/?Interest-Only-Loans&id=312281 weight by loss these genious come ideas take university through articles because on came health under diet got plans then for another food must gestational as diabetes more diet since plans on diabetes with diet might menus my

Dehydrate Vegetables for Long Life

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Judy Williams Drying or dehydrating vegetables is one of the oldest known methods of food preservation. The really great thing about it is that you can do it at home with equipment you have on hand. You should pick your produce at it’s peak and work as quickly as you can to preserve its colour and taste. Prepare your vegetables as if you were going to serve them. Wash them well, trim, cut, chop, slice, whatever. Thickness will play an important role in how long your veggies take to dehydrate, so bear that in mind when preparing. Next you must blanch the vegetables. This will preserve the colour and flavour of the vegetable. Most vegetables have an enzyme that, left active, is what makes it spoil so quickly. Blanching the vegetables stops the enzyme action. Follow available guidelines for blanching (available at www.no-dig-vegetablegarden.com). Once blanched, chilled and drained, you are ready to dry or dehydrate your vegetables for longterm storage. The Rules Of course, there are heaps of rules…but let’s start here. There are three methods used to dry or dehydrate vegetables. Sun dried, commercial dehydrator or oven. Sun drying is the least reliable method for areas with variable temperatures. Unless you live in a climate that is a consistent 90F with low humidity for a guaranteed 3 days in a row, you risk your produce. Once the drying starts, it cannot stop until finished. So DO NOT let your vegetables cool again until they’re done. Having said that, lots of places do have that sort of weather…but more places don’t, so sun drying is a bit of a gamble for most. You can purchase food dehydraters in a range of sizes, but unless you are going to be doing an awful lot of this, it’s probably better to wait or buy one with a group of friends to pass around. They aren’t very expensive, but they are usually used for quite short periods of time. So, we’re left with the oven. It’s almost certain that you have one, so nothing new to buy. It is time consuming and a little fiddly, but it’s such a great result! Oven drying A home oven will only dry small quantities at a time (up to six pounds of produce, depending on the number of racks you have) so don’t be preparing bushells of veggies at a time! Set the oven at the lowest temperature and preheat to 140F (60C). If you are uncertain of the temperature, put a separate oven thermometer on a rack you can see. Check your temperatureevery half hour or so. Lay out your vegetables on stainless steel screen mesh or woodenframes covered in cheescloth. Do NOT use cookie sheets as the air must circulate around the food. Having the food sit next tometal sheets may also transfer a metalic taste. Using othertypes of metal materials may react with the food so please don’t. Load up the veggies. Doing trays of items similar in size will keep the drying even. For instance, doing pumpkin, carrot and potato might be a good mix. Try not to mix strong flavoured items as the flavour may transfer from one vegetable to another. Keep the oven door open about 3 inches or so during drying. It is vital that the temperature is maintained at 140F (60C) and that the moist air can escape. Move the trays around frequently to ensure even drying. No oven has even heat throughout. Keep a close eye on your drying vegetables. Don’t let them scorch and keep them moving. Depending on the vegetable you are drying it will take between4 and 12 hours to dry. Once they’re done, the vegetable pieceswill be hard and should shatter if hit with an instrument. Store in a water tight container. To use, just add them to soups and sauces as they are, or reconstitute (cover them in a container with water 2:1 ratio) for approximately 2 hours before using. Judy Williams (http://www.no-dig-vegetablegarden.com) splits her time between being an executive and an earth mother goddess. No Dig Vegetable Gardens represents a clean, green way to grow your own food. The site covers all aspects of growing, cooking and preserving your harvest.
